Other than the snake-handling and general mayhem when we get wound up... just kidding!
We really can’t speak for Baptist churches in general (each is independent), but if you visit Grace, you’ll find some significant differences in our worship, depending on what you are used to. If you are more accustomed to what happens at Lutheran or Catholic churches, for example, you’ll find that things are much less structured and rote here. We believe God wants people to worship “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23), and the Scriptures do not prescribe that certain passages be read on certain days in a certain order, or that certain rituals be conducted weekly or daily, etc. So we try to vary the sequence of events on Sunday morning, as well as the actual contents of the service.
In addition, because we hold the Bible in very high regard, preaching and teaching get much more attention in our services. Most of our services include 30 to 40 minutes of teaching directly from the Bible.
Other than that, nothing weird goes on here at all. We’re calm and even-tempered people too, so no one is likely to entertain (or irritate) you by shouting “glory!” or “preach it brother!” The worship service usually involves the singing of several hymns (and a little newer music) a reading from Scripture, a song by a soloist or ensemble, and a message from Scripture. It’s all over in about an hour. So join us some time and just relax and turn your heart toward God. It might change your life. It’s been known to happen.
